Disney Un-Disneyed: Peter Pan by kuabci Disney Un-Disneyed: Peter Pan by kuabci

June 2014

And now we've made it to Peter Pan!  This one was fun to do, since I think Disney's Peter is actually not very much like he's described in the book.  Peter is still supposed to look QUITE young (he still has his baby teeth!), but in Disney's his voice has already changed... hm.  I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic film and a pretty great adaptation of the story, but it was still fun to do a redesign of the boy who (somewhat tragically) will never grow up.  I was originally going to draw just him and maybe Tinker Bell, but then I thought I better do Wendy, and then, eh, I better just make it a little bunch of Darlings.

Pan was ALWAYS Barefooted. Shoes aren't that easy to find, let alone produce in the woods. 8-)

That is true.  Plus, what kid likes to put on shoes?  No kid, that's what.  Pan is way too uncivilized for footwear.

Yup. 8-)
And much like Mowgli, he grew up Naked in the wilds then fashioned himself some dresswear, but how to make it out of leaves that don't dry & crumble is beyond me. He coulda' just slain an animal, then use his coat as a jumpsuit, or something. ;p

I'm sure there's more than a little magic involved.  Neverland seems to have pockets of it here and there.

He's sort of a tragic figure because he'll never really grow or learn or enjoy the things that come with living life, he'll just kind of stagnate forever as a child without any thought or memory or anything but himself.  He doesn't even remember Wendy for very long after their adventure, while she never forgets him.  There are actually a lot of levels of sadness to this happy and magical story.
